HCCH Nurses Earn PICC Line Certification

Lori Taylor and Kent Mercer, two of Harrison County Community Hospital’s registered nurses, recently earned certification to place peripherally inserted central catheters, commonly known as PICC lines. PICC lines allow inpatients or outpatients to receive long-term intravenous (IV) antibiotics, nutrition or medications, avoiding the need for repeated IV placements. PICC lines, which are inserted into a vein in the arm, can also be used to draw blood for lab tests. Before Taylor and Mercer earned the certification, area patients had to travel to other facilities to receive a PICC line.
