HCCH Gives Back During Hospital Week
Harrison County Community Hospital observed National Hospital Week, May 7-13, by celebrating its employees and giving back to the community.
“National Hospital Week is a celebration of people,” said Tina Gillespie, interim CEO of the hospital. “We’re extremely proud of each member of our staff, and we recognize the important role they play in extending a sense of trust to our patients and our communities.”
Throughout the week, employees at the hospital and its medical clinics contributed to a food drive to benefit the Harrison County Food Pantry.
On May 15 hospital staff delivered 1,820 pounds of donated food to the pantry. The Food Pantry is a resource for eligible families in Harrison County.
Hospital volunteers also worked to beautify their communities. On May 9 more than two dozen employees picked up trash along several busy streets in Bethany and Eagleville and around the Bethany Memorial Park and the baseball fields.
“We have been a community hospital since we admitted our first patient in 1955, and we are grateful for our important role in the community and the trust we have earned from our patients,” Gillespie said.
With 198 full-time equivalent employees, the hospital district is the county’s largest employer and a major contributor to the region’s economy.
Employees were treated to a picnic lunch and other special events throughout Hospital Week.
The nation’s largest health care event, National Hospital Week dates back to 1921 when it was suggested by a magazine editor who hoped a community wide celebration would alleviate public fears about hospitals.
The celebration, launched in Chicago, succeeded in promoting trust and goodwill among members of the public and eventually spread to facilities across the country.
